The Municipal Local Police is a body at the service of the citizens of Font d’en Carròs.

The regulations that regulate the Local Police Corps list the functions that local police must carry out, such as:

  • A. Protect local corporation authorities and monitor or guard their buildings and facilities.
  • B. Order, signal and direct traffic within the urban area, in accordance with the traffic regulations.
  • C. Investigate reports of traffic accidents within the urban area.
  • D. Administrative Police, regarding ordinances, bans and other municipal provisions within its scope of competence.
  • E. Participate in Judicial Police functions, in the manner established in article 29.2 of this Law.
  • F. Provide assistance in cases of accidents, catastrophes or public calamities, participating, as provided for by law, in the execution of Civil Protection plans.
  • G. Carry out prevention measures and all those actions that tend to avoid the commission of criminal acts within the framework of collaboration established in the Security Boards.
  • H. Monitor public spaces and collaborate with the State Security Forces and Bodies and with the Police of the Autonomous Communities in the protection of demonstrations and the maintenance of order in large human concentrations, when required.
  • I. Cooperate in the resolution of private conflicts when required to do so.

Furthermore, in order to improve and regulate neighborhood coexistence and citizen safety, the Local Police can:

  • Inform about basic self-protection rules
  • Helping people in need
  • Reporting on safety during holidays and other absences
  • School safety
  • Receive neighborhood information (illegal activities in homes, etc.)
  • Management and information in the event of abandoned vehicles (how to process cancellations, removal from public roads, traffic cancellations, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with municipal ordinances (works, nuisances, waste, etc.)
  • Mediation in neighborhood conflicts
  • Mediation in neighborhood conflicts
  • Information about administrative procedures and municipal services
  • Assistance to victims of domestic violence

Protection of children

  • Teach your children to know their full name, address and telephone number.
  • They need to know that if they get lost, it’s best to stay still. Family members will retrace their steps.
  • Explain to them who they should turn to in case of danger, whether they are on the street or at home.
  • Know the friendships and companies of your sons and daughters.
  • Don’t open the door when they are alone.
  • Who always reject invitations from strangers to get into a vehicle or accompany them under any pretext.
  • That they do not accept sweets, candy, tobacco, etc., from strangers.
  • Pay attention to any stories your son or daughter tells you: people who have wanted to pet them, give them something as a gift, etc. Tell them to never keep secrets, even if they ask you to.
  • If necessary, request information from the Local Police or the Civil Guard.

Abuse or sexual assault

  • Stay calm. I think you are not alone. The police are here to help and protect you.
  • Do not endure in silence or be tolerant of the aggressor. Report it immediately.
  • Notify the nearest Local or National Police or go to the police station.
  • Don’t wash or change clothes. Don’t disturb the scene of the assault. It’s evidence.
  • Provide a description of the aggressor and any information that may be of interest.
  • It will be recognized by specialized medical personnel.
  • Formalize the complaint, request a copy and find out about your rights and available assistance.
  • Stay in touch with the Police and collaborate.
  • Remember: filing a complaint is a right and a duty.

When driving down the street

  • Avoid lonely or poorly lit areas.
  • Walk against the flow of traffic, with your bag facing inwards.
  • Carry only the money you need and distribute it among your pockets.
  • Avoid using ATMs if you see suspicious people around.
  • Pay attention when getting on or off public transport. Avoid crowds.
  • Be careful when you go shopping and don’t lose sight of your bag.
  • If you notice that you are being followed in a car, honk your horn and head to a busy place or a police station.
  • Shouting or asking for help can scare the attacker.
  • Observe the offender’s features (age, height, hair, accent, clothing, direction of escape, vehicle, etc.).
  • Try to focus on one of the aggressors if there are several.
  • After the crime, if possible, notify the police and take note of everything you remember.
  • Don’t touch anything until the police arrive.

Protection against theft at home and hotels

  • Don’t open the door to strangers. Look through the peephole first.
  • Ask public service technicians for identification.
  • Confirm the visit by calling the company directly.
  • Don’t have large amounts of money or valuables at home.
  • Do not keep checkbooks with signed documents.
  • If you live outside the urban area, a trained dog can help.
  • Do not use the answering machine if you do not know who is calling.
  • Do not display wealth or valuable objects.
  • Activate all security measures, even if you are only absent for a few minutes.

There are more thefts in the summer and Easter. This is why:

  • Don’t disclose your vacation plans.
  • Keep valuables in safes.
  • Close doors, windows and balconies tightly.
  • Don’t lower the blinds completely.
  • Notify the doorman to collect the correspondence.
  • Install a timer to turn on lights or the radio.
  • Leave a contact number with a trusted neighbor.
  • Do not leave the key under the doormat or in accessible places.
  • Don’t leave notes indicating that you are not home.
  • Only bring necessary cash.
  • I use credit cards and checks.
  • Don’t leave valuables in the hotel; rent a safe.
